Ownership
The idea of The Woman in Black is owned by Susan Hill the author of the book and her publishers, Hamish Hamilton
Hammer film productions then owned the film The Woman In Black after Hamish Hamilton sold the film rights to them.
Other film production companies that own the woman in black include Cross Creek Pictures and The Exclusive Media Group.

The avengers comic was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and their publisher was Marvel Comics. The film production company that Marvel Comics sold the idea to was called Marvel Studios. Marvel Studios employed Kevin Fiege who was put in charge of spending the money.


Costs and Budgets
The Woman in Black cost $15 million to make.

The Avengers cost $220 million to make.

The Woman in Black was made in Britain and was mainly filmed on Osea Island, Essex, England. However the used various places in Essex, Yorkshire and Buckinghamshire.

The Avengers was made in the USA and was filmed in places including Ohio, New Mexico, California, Pennsylvania, Los Angeles, and New York.

The film The Woman in Black was filmed with Arricam LT, Zeiss Master Prime Lenses and Arricam ST, Zeiss Master Prime Lenses cameras.

The Avengers was filmed using Arri Alexa, Panavision Primo, PCZ and Frazier Lenses, Arriflex 435, Panavision Primo Lenses, Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon Lenses, and Canon EOS 7D, Canon Lenses cameras

The main actor in the woman in black is Daniel Radcliff

The main actors in The Avergers are Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansen and Samuel L Jackson.

The director of The Avengers was Joss Whedon, who also directed Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Cabin in the Woods.

The director of The Woman in Black was James Watkins who also directed Eden Lake.

The Woman in Black Film was written by Jane Goldman which shows she is a talented writer who can write good films.

The story for the Avengers was by Zak Penn and Joss Whedon and the screenplay was written by Joss Whedon. The reason why the film was such a success maybe because the story, screenplay and directing was done by the same man so he knew what he wanted the film to look like.

The overall marketing budget is about $3.5m for The Woman in Black and $55m for The Avengers.

The Avengers
There were 34 trailers for the Avengers. They also marketed the film by using billboards, websites, TV interviews, radio interviews, a premier, TV adverts, and by getting critics to review the film.

However for the Woman in Black there were much fewer trailer than there were for the Avengers. The Woman in Black was also marketed by using a website, producing merchandise, having TV adverts, having radio adverts, having a film premier, and by getting critics to review their film.

The Avengers was first released in the US on the 11th April 2012 and was brought to the UK by the 26th April 2012. The Avengers film was distributed to 39 different countries.

The Woman in Black was released on the 3rd February 2012 in the US and didn't arrive in the UK until the 10th February.

Worldwide figure for the Woman in Black show that the film made $128,955,898 and made $10,518,187 on video sales. The film was released on the 3rd February and was released on DVD on the 22nd May 2012.

In the cinema the Avengers made $1,514,279,547 and made $216,257,286 on video sales. The Avengers film was released on the  11th April and wasn't released on DVD until the 25th September which suggests that the Avengers had a longer duration period in the cinema.

The age classification Avengers was PG whereas the rating for the Woman in Black was 12A.

The target audience for the Avengers was for young children and generally people who are interested in comics. Also to relate to a female audience the Avengers included a female hero. However the target audience for the Woman in Black was adults and teenagers who are interested in thriller/ horror films.


Distributors
The Avengers- Walt Disney Studio Motion Pictures, B&H Distributors, Forum films,  and Intercontinental Videos.

The Woman in Black - The distributors of the film include Alliance Films, Ascot Elite Entertainment Group, Audio Visual Enterprises and Diamond Films.



                 
There was a 30-minute live tweeting event for the Avengers featuring writer/director Joss Whedon, cast members Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston and Clark Gregg

Robert Downey Jr was given the Acura car from the film which was recognised and was helped to promote the film and its other products. The Black Sabbath T-shirt he wears is another indirect way in which the film is marketed.

There has also been two apps created for the Avengers which are "Avengers Alliance" App and the "superhero augmented reality app".


There is no app for The Woman in Black. They went for a more traditional marketing campaign including posters, TV and trailers.
